This autumn, Larnaka Region invites visitors to discover a season of heritage, nature, flavours and sport, where warm Mediterranean days meet centuries of culture and a packed calendar of authentic local experiences.
In September, Larnaka experiences warm daytime highs averaging around 30°C to 31°C (86°F to 88°F) and in October, an average daytime high of around 27°C to 28°C (81°F to 82°F). Summer lingers on by Larnaka’s 75kms of coastline, as well as the delightful villages in the Larnaka Region.
From internationally recognised landmarks and newly enhanced green spaces to traditional village festivals and major sporting events, Larnaka offers visitors an inspiring reason to extend the summer feeling well into autumn. The region’s remarkable heritage is reflected in five internationally distinguished attractions. These include:
· The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Choirokoitia Neolithic Settlement
· The Zenobia wreck, recognised among the world’s leading wreck-dive sites
· Hala Sultan Tekke beside Larnaka Salt Lake
· The UNESCO-listed craft of Lefkaritika handmade lace embroidery in Lefkara
· Larnaka Salt Lake itself, an internationally important wetland and a winter refuge for migrating flamingos.
Nature lovers can also enjoy the renewed Patticheio Municipal Park, Larnaka city’s revitalised green retreat. Following extensive renovation, the park now offers expanded landscaped trails, a botanical garden, a circular bridge walkway, observation decks overlooking the park and Salt Lake, improved visitor facilities and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and disabled visitors.
Autumn is also a time to experience the region’s rural character at its most welcoming. Traditional festivals across Larnaka’s villages and mountain communities celebrate local food, crafts and customs, with free admission inviting residents and visitors alike to share in Cyprus’s living traditions. For active travellers, the season brings a programme of sporting opportunities and events, reinforcing Larnaka Region’s appeal as a destination for outdoor activity, competition and year-round adventure. Barsky’s story has been added to Larnaka’s Storytelling Statues. Hundreds of years ago a Ukrainian monk travelled the world and recorded Cyprus as one of his favourite discoveries. The 18th-century traveller Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barsky, from Kyiv, travelled all over Cyprus on foot; lived on the island, learnt Greek, and described it so precisely that his notes remain one of the most valuable primary sources on early modern Cyprus. Some of the attractions Barsky loved and documented remain as popular to this day and continue to be enjoyed by travellers to Larnaka, including the Saint Lazarus Church, Larnaka Salt Lake, and Lefkara village. This inspiring story is now narrated with a mini sculpture of Barsky gifted to Larnaka city by the Ukrainian Community in Cyprus and Obiimy Cultural Center. Alongside its visitor experiences, Larnaka Tourism continues to participate in European initiatives that support skills, sustainability, and collaboration across the tourism sector.
