Some see Barnet Football Club as just that – a football club, but it is so much more. It goes deeper than what happens during the 90 minutes on a match day. It has the power to bring the Community together and change people’s lives for the better.
Barnet FC and its charitable arm, Barnet FCCommunity Trust(BFCCT) continues to have a positive impact far beyond the 90 minutes on a Saturday and actively engages with the local community that surrounds and sustains us, seven days a week.
The Trust continues to tackle even more challenging topics and to promote a healthy, safe, well-educated and physically active community, helping it to become stronger and more inclusive. As a charity attached to Barnet FC, BFCCT provide a unique hook that enables them to engage with all sections of the community. Indeed, to many, their club is the symbol of their community.
BFCCT works within the local community for the benefit of the residents, young and old, many of them Greek and Greek-Cypriot. As well as supporting government initiatives aimed at youth, the Trust have created their own schemes aimed at bringing the best out of local residents across Barnet and Harrow. You need only look at the campaigns they have launched in the past to see how crucial they are in meeting the needs of the community – campaigns such as increasing sport participation and encouraging healthier lifestyles overall; programmes developed to reduce youth offending through social inclusion programmes and mentoring schemes; and the numerous events put on to use sport to re-engage people with learning and employment and this is only scratching the surface.
The Trust uses Barnet Football Club and its backing as a vehicle to deliver and reinforce important social messages. They are also able to attract volunteers, both young people and adults, many of whom undertake range of training programmes run by BFFCT to eventually become qualified sports coaches, thus creating employment and voluntary opportunities.
