We extend our gratitude to our residents for their patience while we deal with the aftermath of the devastating fire at the Waste Transfer Station in Wembley last Friday. The council uses the facility to deposit domestic waste. Due to the emergency, some of our waste collection vehicles had to be left at the site when it was evacuated.
Despite the disruption, the council made alternative arrangements and completed its scheduled waste collections over the bank holiday weekend.
Now that London Fire Brigade is satisfied that the fire has been extinguished, investigators are examining the extent of the damage caused to the facility. This will take several days and until we are satisfied that the structure is safe and secured, we will not permit council employees to enter.
At this stage, we do not know the exact impact this will have on the service. The council has several alternative options, so residents should not experience any disruption to their scheduled waste collection. We will keep residents updated on the situation and thank them for bearing with us as we deal with circumstances beyond our control.
