Theresa Villiers, a Conservative Party MP, has expressed her willingness to help highlight the continuing refusal by Turkey to allow Cypriot-flagged vessels entry in its ports.
Ms Villiers was updated on the Turkish infringement of the additional protocol of the Ankara Association Agreement between Turkey and the EU by former chairman and current member of the Cyprus Union of Shipowners George Mouskas and Doros Partasides, a photographer well-known for his efforts to promote Cypriot interests in the UK.
A long-standing friend of Cyprus, Ms Villiers agreed to bring the matter to the attention of the British Department of Transport, which has shipping and maritime affairs under its remit.
During their meeting, the two UK Cypriots discussed with the Conservative MP the next steps in the current efforts to negotiate a settlement to the Cyprus issue. They also thanked her for her efforts to keep the issue high on the UK Government’s foreign policy agenda.
