Cooking causes Enfield flat fire

Cooking left unattended was to blame for a fire which left a man requiring treatment for smoke inhalation in Upper Edmonton.

Firefighters put out the small flat fire on Cameron Close started in the kitchen making the whole flat smoke logged. Fire crews rescued a man from the back bedroom who was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. Fire investigators believe the fire was caused by cooking left on the hob.

Edmonton Watch Manager Dave Reed, who was at the scene said:

“Cooking is one of the most common causes of accidental fires in London homes. You should never leave cooking unattended – if you have to leave the room, turn the heat off. Also don’t cook if you are tired or tipsy, as you could fall asleep and cause a fire.”

Twenty one firefighters and officers from Edmonton and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene. The Brigade was called at 0106 and the fire was under control by 0128.
