Russia considers the latest round of talks in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, merely as “a stage” of the settlement process of the Cyprus issue, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy said on Friday.
Asked by CNA to comment on the latest developments, following the conclusion of talks in the Swiss resort, in the early hours of Friday, without an agreement, Osadchiy expressed his support to the statement made earlier by Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides, who said that the result is not the end of the road.
“From our side we hope that Cyprus will become a united state without guaranties and military forces from other countries” Russia’s Ambassador concluded.
UN-backed talks, which took place in Crans Montana in the past several days, ended inconclusively early on Friday morning. The peace talks aim at reuniting Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof.
