Cyprus: 40 calls to blazes in Cyprus

The Fire Service responded to a total of 40 calls to blazes in the countryside Monday.
Spokesman Lisa Kemitzi told CNA that the most serious were two that broke out in an area between the villages of Agia Varvara and Mathiatis and the other in the village of Mosphili.
Regarding the fire between the villages of Agia Varvara and Mathiatis, she said it was reported at around midnight and 10 Fire Service and Forestry Department vehicles responded.
The fire was brought completely under control after burning a square kilometre of dry grasses, wild vegetation and trees.
The other fire in Mosphili, she added, broke a little before 4am and destroyed wild vegetation and an animal enclosure.
It was brought under complete control.
Firemen are still in scene to prevent the blazes breaking out again.
