Cyprus and China sign agreement on cultural cooperation

Cyprus and China have signed an agreement for an Executive Program on Cultural Cooperation for the years 2014-2018. The agreement was signed Saturday between the Minister of Culture of the People`s Republic Cai Wu and Minister of Education and Culture, Kyriacos Kenevezos.

Welcoming the Chinese Minister, Kenevezos said that “this visit is an additional proof of the genuine and deep relations that the two states maintain despite their geographical distance.”
According to an official press release, the signature of the Executive Program of Cooperation in the field of Culture is the final product of an effort that began last year.

It is noted that the two key steps that led to this positive outcome was the visit of Deputy Minister of Culture of China to Cyprus last October and the visit of the Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus to China last December.

“The cultural sector can be an additional element that would deepen relations between the two countries, especially with the implementation of all aspects of the program”, Kenevezos said.

He also praised the good cooperation between the two countries at all levels and thanked China for its continued support as regards the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

The Minister of Culture of the People`s Republic of China, noted that the program is of utmost importance because it offers the opportunity for further cooperation in all fields of Culture.
