Cyprus authorities announce two new COVID-19 cases on Saturday

Cyprus authorities announced on Saturday two new COVID-19 cases, after conducting 2,843 laboratory tests. The total number of positive cases detected in Cyprus so far rose to 1,483.

One of the two positive cases showed symptoms on August 25 and did the test privately on August 28. The second person was a contact of a previously confirmed case, detected after contact-tracing.

A Health Ministry announcement says that one case was found after testing 98 samples in the framework of contact-tracing, while one more case was detected after 876 people tested on their private initiative.

No cases were found after testing 1,504 passengers, 83 samples at Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals, 53 samples taken at crossing points, one sample taken from personnel working at Courts and 228 samples after referrals from GPs.

Six patients are hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, one of them at the ICU. One patient remains intubated at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU.
