Cyprus drafts roadmap to tackle possible COVID-19 outbreak in winter

Cyprus has drafted a road map to tackle a possible escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the winter time, Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantela has said.

“As we exit a pandemic that has tested the limits of people health systems and the economies on global level, our mind should be focused on the day after,” Hadjipantela said addressing on Tuesday an event on Public Health, noting that correct decisions and timely and effective actions assisted Cyprus to exit the pandemic “with the least possible losses.”

Hadjipantela stressed that the day after reveals the needs and the challenges on public health, “as the pandemic’s experience is an excellent basis for repurposing public health police priorities.”

The Health Minister added that responding to the European Commission call for vigilance in view of a possible new escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry has drafted a roadmap ahead of the coming autumn and winter.

“Building on the pandemic experience, we have drafted strategies aiming on prevention, diagnose and treatment as well as on maintaining a resilient economy and an open society,” Hadjipantela said, noting that cooperation and the dissemination of knowledge “constitute the backbone for the day after and the tackling of all emerging challenges.”
