The weekends big game at the Tsirion stadium in Limassol ended in a 1-1 draw as AEL and Omonia shared the points. Both sides scored in the first half, as Omonia took the lead through Freddie in the 12th minute who scored with a powerful shot. However, the champions responded with the equaliser in the 23rd minute when Bebe scored from a well taken free kick.
The second half was an even affair with both sides cancelling each other out. However, Omonia ended the match with 10 players following the sending off of Nuno Assis shortly before full time and who will now miss the match with APOEL.
APOEL made it four wins out of four thanks to an outstanding late goal by Alto Atorno which won the game in a hard fought match against Apollon at the GSP stadium. The Paraguayan striker hit the winner in the 78th minute which keeps the Nicosia side top of the league with 12 points.
Apollon spurned a late chance to level the match, but were unable to avoid defeat, continuing their run of matches at the GSP without a win.
Both teams played out an excellent first half taking turns to dominate possession and create chances. Apollon started the brighter of the two teams, but APOEL got a foothold in the match by the mid-point of the first half and began to look more menacing. Apollon responded with a late rally before the referee blew for the end of the first period.
In the second half, both teams appeared to tire with APOEL creating the best of the chances until finally making the breakthrough with Atorno’s impressive strike late on.
In the other matches Anorthosis beat Alkis 3-0, ENP beat Doxa 1-0, AEK beat Olympiakos 1-0, Ethnikos drew with New Salamis 1-1 and AEP beat Ayia Napa 3-0.
