Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides paid a working visit to the Holy See and discussed with his counterpart, the Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, bilateral relations, the Cyprus issue, migration, human trafficking and the situation in the Middle East.
During his visit, on October 26 and 27, Kasoulides also briefed Gallagher over the recent obstacles put forward by the Turkish side in delivering humanitarian aid to enclaved Greek Cypriots and Maronites in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus.
The two sides reaffirmed their traditionally friendly relations ahead of the 45th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic ties, next year.
Concerning the Middle East, the two men agreed on the need to apply international law and protect religious minorities, and in particular Christians living in the region.
The Minister met also with Leonardo Sandri, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, in the presence of Maronite Archbishop Youssef Soueif, with Kasoulides underlining the active contribution of the Maronite community in Cyprus.
During his visit, Kasoulides participated in a conference concerning the contribution of Christianity in the European project, that took place in the Vatican.
