Cyprus President travels to Canada to attract investments

As part of a campaign to enhance the international image of the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable and attractive investment destination, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is travelling on Thursday morning to Toronto, Canada, according to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis.

Letymbiotis noted that this trip follows the President’s recent visit to the United States to attract quality investments to Cyprus.

According to the Spokesperson, while in Canada, President Christodoulides will participate in an event organized by members of the Cypriot communities of Toronto on Thursday evening.

On Friday, he will meet with the founder, President, and CEO of Fairfax, Prem Watsa. On Friday afternoon a roundtable discussion will take place with leading businesspeople and investors active in the financial sector, research, innovation, and real estate development.

On Friday evening, President Christodoulides will participate in a roundtable discussion and working dinner co-organised by the France Canada Chamber of Commerce (FCCCO), with the participation of senior executives from major companies that are members of the French-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

“The Republic of Cyprus is now presented as a dynamic and resilient economy with high growth rates, strong public finances, historically low unemployment rate and an upgrade of its credit rating to Category A by all major international rating agencies, factors that inspire confidence in international investors,” Letymbiotis added.

“As a full member state of the European Union and thanks to its strategic location, Cyprus offers a unique environment for investment and regional activities,” he stressed.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied to Canada by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, the Government Spokesperson, the Deputy Minister to the President, Irene Piki, the President of Invest Cyprus, Evgenios Evgeniou, and other officials.

The President will leave Toronto for New York on September 20, Letymbiotis noted.
