Cyprus to receive €3.9 million from European fund for deprived students

The European Commission approved on Thursday the use of the new Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) by a Cypriot operational programme. Cyprus will receive €3.9 million, covering the period 2014-2020 to provide basic material assistance to children who need it the most. This amount is supplemented by approximately €700,000 from national resources.

The European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility Marianne Thyssen welcomed the adoption of the Cypriot Programme by the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived , which will focus on supporting poor students.

“Vulnerable children deserve every support from us and I am confident that this programme will help to enable them to fully develop their potentials at their schools,” he noted.

FEAD will provide school supplies (clothing and school bags) to needy students in Cyprus attending public schools, complementing the existing national system through which they receive food.
