Cyprus Week 2026: Seven nights of theatre, film, music, poetry and Art

Theatro Technis, the Cypriot theatre in Camden, has announced Cyprus Week 2026: a seven night programme of new plays, film screenings, live music, poetry and visual art marking the anniversary of the events of 1974. Every event is free to attend.
The week runs from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 July at the theatre’s home on Crowndale Road, bringing together premieres, rehearsed readings, documentary screenings and an art exhibition, alongside comedy and live music.
The programme opens on Monday 20 July with the raising of the flags of Cyprus and the EU and the unveiling of a plaque in memory of Marula Eugeniou, co-founder of Theatro Technis, with words from her son Aris Eugeniou. His Excellency Dr. Kyriacos Kouros, High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus in the UK, will open the week, with speeches from Lobby for Cyprus and EKA. The evening continues with poetry and song presented by Vasilis Panayi, performed by Vasilis Panayi, Panos Savvides, Lucy Christofi, Lee Micheals, Giorgos Yerasimos and his band, and Kat Neocleous. Author Soulla Christodoulou will speak about her work.
Tuesday 21 July brings the premiere of Sun Down, a new play by Maria Georgiou about a Cypriot woman who arrives in London as a newlywed and spends her life planning a return home that never quite comes. Musician Phil Ryan performs after the play.
On Wednesday 22 July the theatre screens The Story of the Green Line, Panikos Chryssanthou’s film about two soldiers, one Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot, who find common ground across the UN buffer zone.
Thursday 23 July features ’74 by Chrisanthi Livadiotis and Sebastião Marques Lopes, a play set against both the occupation of Cyprus and the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, alongside a rehearsed reading of Costas Louis’ The Brixton Gang, based on the real lives of Cypriot immigrants in 1950s Brixton, performed by Panos Savvides and Dimitri Andreas.
Friday 24 July presents Stella’s Letter, adapted and directed by Peter Kosta from the late George Eugeniou’s play, read by Peter Kosta and Lucy Christofi. Set in 2003, when the crossing between north and south opened for the first time, it follows one woman’s decision to return to her home in occupied Kyrenia. The evening also includes comedy from Christof Epaminondas and live harp music from Ricardo Curbelo.
Saturday 25 July sees Sun Down and The Brixton Gang return, with Christof Epaminondas performing his full stand up set before taking it to the Edinburgh Fringe.
The week closes on Sunday 26 July with writer Alex Christofi discussing his book Cypria, A Journey to the Heart of the Mediterranean, hosted by Dr Marilyn Panayi, followed by an afternoon of poetry, song, dance and documentary screenings.
Running throughout the week is Crossed Roads, an exhibition of work by Contemporary Patternist Kika Pierides and artist, painter and sculptor Enver Gürsev. Two British Cypriot artists whose roots have taken them in very different directions.
Kerry Kyriacos Michael MBE, Creative Director of Theatro Technis, said: “Every July we mark the anniversary of 1974, and every year it feels less like a commemoration and more like a conversation. This week we have new plays, films, poetry, music and art, made by Cypriots and by people who have lived alongside Cypriots for fifty years. All of it is free, because these are stories that belong to a community, so come and support and be part of the conversation. Everyone is welcome.”
