Davutoğlu: “We want Cyprus to be an island of peace”

The meeting between Turkish Cypriot community leader Dervis Eroğlu and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has ended. After the meeting Davutoğlu spoke at the press conference.

We want Cyprus to be an Island of Peace

Davutoğlu commented on the negotiation period, stating that his desire was for Cyprus to be an island of peace, adding that they want to consider how to make the Mediterranean a peace basin, however despite all their struggles they have been unsuccessful in achieving what they want. Davutoğlu noted that they told The Cyprus Republic and Anastasiades to end the problem, telling Eroğlu that “For the first time after the 7th July you will be meeting with Anastasiades tonight. Eide is also going to be attending this meeting. We fully trust Ban Ki Moon and Eide.”

A call for cooperation to Greek Prime Minister

During his speech Davutoğlu also called out to Greece Prime Minister Samaras. “Let us go to the South first, drink our teas, and then let us pass to the North. Let us set an example by solving this problem together,” he said. On a question directed by KP Daily News Editor Beran Dagtas, Davutoğlu answered; “If there is to be a peace one day, besides having the same pipeline, it would be possible to have the same electric and natural gas pipeline as well. If there is to be a peace, we shall distribute to the whole world, both Greek and Turk would benefit from this. If there is to be a peace, and if this will encourage peace, Turkey’s power would be eliminated. Firstly we would get the natural gas to Turkey, then market it to the whole world. We would do the same regarding electricty.”

ANY THREAT TO THE OCCUPIED PART OF CYPRUS IS ALSO DIRECTED TO TURKEY

To a question about ISIs, he noted that he was not informed of a threat against the occupied part of Cyprus, and that any threat is also directed to Turkey. Davutoğlu said.
