Edmonton Police Station: Saved by Enfield Labour

Enfield Labour is celebrating the news that the front counter at Edmonton Police Station will remain open, following our campaign to keep it open.

Celebrating the news, Cllr Ergin Erbil the leader of Enfield Council said “I am delighted that the Metropolitan Police have listened to our concerns and decided to keep the Edmonton Police Station front counter open.

Since we first heard about the proposals to close it in summer 2025, my team and I have pressed both the Mayor and the Government to rethink the proposal.

We have pushed hard every step of the way, making clear that closing Enfield’s only front counter would have left residents without an accessible place to report crime and seek help in person.

This decision is a real victory for our community.

Under Labour leadership, we’ve been working tirelessly to cut crime and build a safer Enfield. Crime is down thanks to our joint work with the Met and investment. We’ve partnered closely with the police on operations like Operation Pisces in Edmonton, which has led to over 800 arrests as part of the Clear-Hold-Build project. Our Weekend Park Patrols have reduced antisocial behaviour across our parks, and our Opening Doors Community Fund is supporting local groups in Edmonton and Ponders End to tackle serious violence.

We’ve also introduced security patrols on council-owned housing estates and ensured every neighbourhood has a named, contactable police sergeant, thanks to funding from the Labour government.

After fourteen years of Tory cuts to police budgets, Labour is rebuilding community safety and restoring local confidence. But we know there’s more to do. That’s why we will lead on even more frontline policing and face-to-face services. We will work with the Met to bring safer neighbourhood officers even closer to the communities they serve.”
