Enfield Council: Buy a home with grant help, but act fast

Act fast is the message in a new campaign telling Enfield Council tenants thinking of moving out of their council homes that they may be eligible for a grant towards buying a home of their own.

Under the government’s ‘Grant to Vacate’ scheme Enfield Council may be able to offer some council tenants grants of £40,000 if they move from a one bedroom; £50,000 from a two bedroom home and £55,000 from a three bedroom home or larger.

Cllr Ahmet Oykener, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said, “I cannot stress enough how important it is to get applications in fast. We have funding up to 14 March and want to be sure that we use it. We can help tenants who satisfy the conditions to vacate their council homes, and help new families needing a home.

“It is a great opportunity so I say to our council tenants if you think that you qualify for a grant please contact Enfield Homes for more information.”

Tenants applying for a grant can expect a few questions and checks. Only secure tenants with Enfield Council for at least two years will be considered for a grant.

They must be up-to-date with rent and be able to demonstrate that they could not afford to buy a home without the help of a grant.

To find out more tenants should go to: www.enfieldhomes.org to download Grants to Vacate Application form and guide for tenants information booklet.

Call 0800 4080160 and ask for Filiz Mustafa or Debra Adeyemi or Email ehgtv@enfieldhomes.org and choose the Rehousing option.

Applications will be dealt with on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The scheme does not apply to leaseholders, tenants living in sheltered housing or bedsit flats.
