Enfield Residents urged to register to vote on EU

Enfield Council is encouraging its residents to register to vote so that they can take part in a once in a generation European Union (EU) referendum. The referendum, which will take place on Thursday 23 June, will ask residents to vote on the question of whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union. In order to participate in the referendum, residents must be registered to vote. If not already on the electoral register then the deadline for applying in time for the EU referendum is Tuesday 7th June. You will be able to vote in person at your polling station on 23 June between 7am – 10pm or alternatively can apply to vote by post.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote on the EU Referendum is 5pm on Wednesday 8 June. Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance & Efficiency, Cllr Dino Lemonides, said: “The Mayor of London and Greater London Authority (GLA) elections this month saw a turnout in Enfield of 43.5%, this is an increase from 38% back in 2012 and shows more people are choosing to take part in the mayoral and GLA elections.

“The EU referendum is a once in a generation chance for local people to have a real say over the way our country interacts with Europe and globally. “If you haven’t already registered to vote it is absolutely vital to get registered now, or lose your voice on this really important matter.” To get registered go here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote If you would like further details on the Referendum and how to vote then please visit: www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
