Yorgancioglu argues that Eroglu committed a mistake by withdrawing Talat’s package of proposals
Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (14.02.12) reports that the chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Ozkan Yorgancioglu has argued that the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu committed a mistake by withdrawing the package submitted by the former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat at the negotiating table on 4 January 2010. According to a statement issued by CTP’s press office, Yorgancioglu said that in case the negotiations are interrupted, the Turkish Cypriot side will be blamed.
Yorgancioglu expressed the view that the Turkish Cypriot side was weakened by the withdrawal from the table of a package of proposals on which agreement had been achieved by 90%. He argued that Eroglu and his advisor Kudret Ozersay are not saying the truth when they express the satisfaction of the Turkish Cypriot side after the tripartite summit at the Greentree.
Yorgancioglu noted that CTP also holds meetings with foreign diplomats, including Alexander Downer, and added that what they are told is that in case the negotiations are interrupted, the Turkish side is the one to be blamed.
