There is a shortage of masks in the market as measures start relaxing gradually, Eleni Piera, the President of the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association has told CNA. Masks are deemed essential as employees return to their workplaces, and there is also demand from the general public, Piera said and called on authorities to make sure that there are adequate supplies in the market.
There is strong demand and pharmacies have very few or no quantities of masks at all, she said, adding that competent authorities need to do everything possible to ensure their supply.
Masks are the first thing people ask for when going to a pharmacy, Piera said adding that there are indications that importers will receive some quantities by the end of this week or next week. She said, however, that quantities are not deemed to be enough to cover increased demand.
Piera also noted that people should be instructed how to wear masks properly.
There is a price ceiling, as simple surgical masks cost maximum €0.70 while masks with filter cost between €5.75 and €7.30.
