The UK will be represented at the conference on Cyprus in Geneva later this week by the political leadership of the Foreign Office.
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson will be head of the delegation and will be accompanied by Minister for Europe Sir Alan Duncan, who travelled to Ankara and Athens last week, as well as experienced diplomats with deep knowledge of the Cyprus issue.
Prime Minister Theresa May, however, has also been preparing for the possibility of attending the talks. She is thought to be ready to travel to Switzerland if a deal on the reunification of Cyprus seems to be close, depending also on whether the heads of governments of the other two guarantor powers will attend.
Mr Johnson is in the United States for meetings with President-elect Donald Trump’s advisers and members of the US Senate. On Tuesday he is expected to answer foreign policy questions in the House of Commons and then on Wednesday to depart for Geneva.
