Get active

Whether you have decided to go on a diet after all the festive food, you have just decided to eat healthier than before, or are looking to change your physique to become a more shapely and sculpted you, you need a good exercise regime along with better eating. The combination of healthy eating with good regular active exercise will help you create the body you desire. Get some cardio exercise and some strength training and it can help you sculpture that super body you have always wanted.

Regular exercise does not mean that you have to spend hours in the gym, it simply means the activity should be done correctly with good intensity and regularly. A minimum of 2-3 times a week is really all that is actually required. As always if you do something and you want to gain from it, it should be done with a passion and desire to achieve, and even learn from it.

Many of us fitness professionals surprisingly do not spend endless hours in the gym, it is more about finding what you enjoy doing, doing it well and continually alter and step up the level to create change for more improvement.

If you like running or riding a bike out in the open that is great, if you really enjoy it, you may find that the weather does not stop you as much as some of those who are not so dedicated to the cold winter sporting life. However, a spin class might work for some in the winter where a high intensity cycling workout takes the place on a stationary machine.

So finding your sport is key. What do you enjoy doing? Badminton, swimming, climbing, basketball, football, gymnastics, karate, boxing, kickboxing, dancing, street dance, aerial exercise, salsa – you have a choice to join a gym or go to centres where they offer a lot of these classes. You can learn so much now from the internet and even do it at home, there really isn’t room for too many excuses. Even if you have particular ailments, if you really want to do something, you will find a way of doing it.

I can tell you that from a child, I have been dancing and also been doing forms of martial arts. It took a lot to hold me back. Even with ailments, I used to force myself to find a way of doing what I loved so much. Even now people would not believe it if they knew how I continue. I get an injury but will strap it up and do my best to my capacity, because I so want to be there. I go in to teach because I want so much to share the knowledge and it is good for me also; it is more a case of ‘somebody stop me’. So find a way to do what you love and that way it won’t be just trying to keep fit, it will be keeping fit as you do what you enjoy. You are also less likely to give up then.

Do you like dancing? Go to classes and learn the moves even better for when you go out and dance the night away.

Strength training physical exercise to build muscles. The aim is to use appropriate weight or resistant force to work the target muscles to fatigue. By working to fatigue, this allows the muscle to break down and then repair itself stronger. This is when you will start to see the growing toned muscle. If you continue to use the same weight in your regime, you will not see a great jump in muscle gain, if you use poor technique, you will also not see muscle improvement to its full capacity, so learning good technique is essential if you want to see strong muscle gain.

Give lots of different things a go till you find what you like. You may have done some sport you enjoyed years back but have other things getting in the way and holding you back. Make it social, find a friend who will want to go also – this may help motivate you if you are not self-motivated. Whatever it takes, find a way and get back doing what you love doing. Find what you want to do and have a variety of sports activities if you can; It then helps exercise, tone and strengthen all the different muscles.

When you have found the ones you like, try to do as regularly as you can. If you have to miss the odd session, don’t give up, just get back to it as soon as you can and all is not lost.

Missing the odd session here and there won’t create a big loss in muscle toning or strength, as long as you get back to it swiftly and step it up.

Remember that endorphins are released during physical activity; the hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system, having a number of physiological functions, this is what makes you feel happy. So get out there and get happy as you start to look and feel amazing !
