Enfield Labour and their Leader Cllr Ergin Erbil are celebrating the start of the new school year this week, a time of new opportunities and challenges for children and young people across the borough.
Thanks to Labour, the new school year also marks the start of a number of programs that will help working families and our children, saving money, improving opportunities and ensuring everyone in Enfield can reach their full potential.
Welcoming children back to school, Cllr Ergin Erbil, the Leader of Enfield Council said: “Good luck to everyone starting back at school, college or nursery this month. It’s a new start, and a new opportunity for our children to make the most of all the opportunities available to them. My own little one is starting nursery full time this year, so I know how all our parents in the borough are feeling as well! I’d also like to wish our wonderful teachers and school support staff all the best for the new academic year, and thank them for the incredible work they do.”
Enfield Labour is making sure children and families are more supported than they ever have been. All our schools in Enfield are now either “Good” or “Outstanding”, and that’s something we are really proud of.
In addition, families will now be able to benefit from 30 hours a month of free childcare, saving them £7,500 a year on average.
We’re also rolling out free breakfast clubs to primary schools, not only saving families money, but boosting the achievement of pupils. In Enfield, all state primary school students will now get two free school meals a day, increasing attendance and attainment.
Labour has also massively expanded the eligibility for Free School Meals. In Enfield, over 30,000 children are now eligible.
From next September, schools will only be allowed to ask parents to buy three branded items of uniform, saving families even more money.
And I’m so proud that it’s recently been announced that the Labour Government will be rolling out Best Start family hubs, building on the incredible work that the last Labour Government did with Sure Start.
At the elections in May, I want us to celebrate the Labour choices we make to improve education and the lives of working families, to support our young people and families, putting money back in people’s pockets. We’re the party that’s on the side of parents in Enfield.”
