Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties’ visit to Famagusta monuments postponed

A scheduled for Friday visit to Famagusta monuments by delegations of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties has been postponed “due to differing views of the political parties” the Embassy of Slovakia has announced.

“The Embassy of the Slovak Republic together with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties actively participating at the bi-communal activities planned a visit to ancient monuments in the Famagusta area which was scheduled for Friday 31st October 2014”, Slovak Ambassador Oxana Tomova says in a press release.

I would like to reaffirm, she adds, “that the Slovak Embassy was of the opinion that it is important to realise this visit especially in this critical time, in order to demonstrate the viability of this platform to bridge current issues and to send a strong signal of our devotion and commitment for confidence building measures”.

“Due to differing views of the political parties and under the circumstances, I have decided to postpone the visit to Famagusta for the new, until now not specified date”, she concludes.
