Haringey Borough News

The season’s Essex Senior League League fixtures have been published and Haringey Borough’s are to be found on www.haringeyboroughfc.com.

We start with 2 home games at Coles Park on Saturday 9th August (3pm) and Tuesday 12th (7.45pm) against Clapton and London Bari respectively. The home FA Cup game with Hertford Town follows on Saturday 16th and on Tuesday 19th Ilford will visit Coles Park in the First Round of the Gordon Brasted Trophy, unless the game with Hertford is drawn in which case a replay would take place at Hertingfordbury Park that evening. The first away game will be on Saturday 23rd August against Enfield (1893) FC who will be playing their home games at Harlow Town’s superb Barrows Farm Stadium this season.

Goals have been a scarce commodity in Borough’s four pre season friendlies. Anthony McDonald scored the first of the season against Royston Town midway through the first half on 12th July with “The Crows” equalising late in the second half. The next Borough goal did not arrive until Tuesday 22nd when Darrell Cox slotted home what was to be the only goal of the match midway through the second half against visiting Harlow Town in which Borough produced the best of their four performances. In between Wingate & Finchley had visited on 15th and left 1-0 winners thanks to a rocket shot of a free kick just before the interval; and on Saturday 19th AFC Hayes visited and left 2-0 winners with both goals coming in the last few minutes after Borough’s erstwhile defensive composure had been compromised by a flurry of late substitutions. On the run of play it would probably have been justice if all had finished as draws but Borough can take great satisfaction in having effectively matched four opponents from higher up the Pyramid.

Three Friendly fixtures remain, all at Coles Park, with FFC Haringey visiting on Saturday 26th, Redbridge on Tuesday 29th and Brimsdown on Saturday 2nd August.
