Holloway – flat fire

Firefighters were called to a flat fire on Liverpool Road in Holloway last night.

Half of the flat on the third floor was damaged by the blaze. A man lowered himself from the second floor to a balcony below and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Another man left the building before the Brigade arrived, thankfully he was uninjured.

The cause of the fire is believed to candle left unattended which ignited some clothing.

London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“As lovely as candles are if they are left unattended they can easily start a fire and cause significant damage to your home. Make sure you keep them on a flame retardant surface and away from clothing or paper.”

Twenty one firefighters and officers attended from Holloway, Islington, Kentish Town, and Stoke Newington fire stations.

The Brigade was called at 2040 and the fire was under control at 2126.
