An agreement worth over €1 million was signed on Thursday, in Nicosia, between the Interior Ministry and “Hope for Children” UNCRC Policy Centre for the establishment and operation of a hospitality centre for unaccompanied third country minors in Cyprus.
The EU project has a budget of €1.03 million and aims to set up a hospitality centre and improve admission conditions in Cyprus for under age immigrants who are unaccompanied, an official press release says.
The centre, which will operate in accordance with international standards and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, will be able to host up to 45 unaccompanied minors.
The project will cover operational, furniture and equipment costs as well as food provided to its occupants.
The Hope for Children Policy Centre is expected to provide the option of Greek language lessons on a regular basis, psychological support and integration services.
The project is funded 90% by the EU Asylum and Migration and Integration Fund for the period 2014 – 2020 and 10% by the Republic of Cyprus.
