Introducing Zoe Ioannou Greek speaking Audiologist specialising in Ear Wax removal using Microsuction technique
Hi all readers of Parikiaki,
My name is Zoe. I speak fluent Greek and am the daughter of Greek Cypriot parents. My private clinic is in North Finchley, North London, with free parking available.
I specialise in Ear Wax removal. In 1996 I qualified with a Masters Degree in Audiological Science from UCL (MSc). I have worked for the NHS for people requiring hearing aids, both adults and paediatrics, as well as balance disorders. I have also worked privately at Harley Street.
Throughout my 29 years NHS experience during my work as an audiologist and working closely with Ear Nose & Throat consultants, I realised that wax is a major issue for many people. Not just those with a permanent hearing loss requiring hearing aids, but for a wide variety of ages and people. I have experience clearing ears of people aged 2 to 98 years old. Many people young and old suffer from ear wax, whether their ears naturally do not clear themselves, or because they are using ear phones (eg air pods), cotton buds (cue tips), ear plugs to reduce noise, or hearing aids. In addition, many people have dry skin or produce more wax than others.
Since the NHS stopped providing ear cleaning via syringing (September 2019), most people are unable to access free wax removal services. The NHS stopped the syringing of ears due to safety as well as budget cuts. Earwax Microsuction is now the standard technique for removing bothersome ear wax. Ear Microsuction is a safe and effective method of removing excessive wax, foreign bodies or debris from the ear canal without the use of water. The procedure involves the use of magnification Loupes placed on the audiologists eyes, to visualise the ear canal and a fine suction device to gently remove the blockage.
Benefits of Ear Microsuction: Quick and often painless; No water used, reducing the risk of infection; Direct visualisation of the ear canal ensures precision; Instant relief from symptoms when blockage removed; Suitable for most individuals, including those with ear surgery or perforation
What does the procedure involve?
Examination – The audiologist (Zoe) will first examine your ears using an otoscope; If wax is identified, whilst seated in a comfortable chair, I will ask you to tilt your head to the side and may use some ear drops to loosen the wax; I will then use a sterile single use suction tube to remove the wax through gentle suction, whilst visualising through the microscopic Loupes at all times.
Unfortunately, wax microsuction is still unregulated and many inexperienced individuals are attending a one day course with no practical experience and then opening clinics or working for larger companies. With my service, you can rest assured that you are in safe, capable experienced hands.
My prices are competitive and often cheaper than most; £60 for both ears. £50 for one ear and £30 if no wax is identified (consultation only). *Sundays, evenings appointments and home visits cost more.
My advert is included in this write up. Please feel free to contact me to discuss whether you need ear wax microsuction at my independent private clinic.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Zoe x
