Islington: Man guilty of murdering his wife

A man who decapitated his wife after he suspected she was going to leave him following an affair has been found guilty of her murder.

Dempsey Nibbs, 69 (29.09.46) of Vince Court, Charles Square, N1, was found guilty of the murder of Judith Nibbs, 60, at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 12 April. He was also found guilty of obstructing a coroner.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at approximately 05:00hrs on Friday, 11 April 2014, to Charles Square Estate, N1 following concerns for the welfare of a resident.

Officers attended and found Judith deceased at the location. She had been decapitated.

Dempsey Nibbs was found at the property with a knife and holding a long barrelled firearm.

Officers removed the firearm from Nibbs’ possession but he stabbed himself with the knife.

He was taken by London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where he was treated for the self inflicted injuries which left him in a critical condition.

Following his recovery, Dempsey Nibbs was charged with the murder of Judith Nibbs.

pwuu6jzh6dgrkozc75hqNibbs had believed that his wife had been having affairs and was going to leave him before he launched the attack that ended her life.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams of the Homicide and Major Crime Command led the investigation. He said:

“Dempsey Nibbs believed his wife was having an affair and used this misplaced jealously to launch a ferocious and brutal attack on Judith.

“I am pleased that the court has found Dempsey Nibbs guilty and I can only hope this verdict can bring some closure to Judith’s family.”

Dempsey Nibbs will be sentenced at the same court – we await confirmation of the date.
