Joint Search and Rescue Exercise between Cyprus and Greece

A joint Search and Rescue Exercise under the name “SALAMIS – 03/20” was conducted on Monday, according to a press release issued by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the exercise took place within the area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus, with the participation of the Greek Frigate “KANARIS”, a Helicopter of the 460th Search-Rescue Squadron of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as specialized nurses of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organization.

The aeronautical exercise was held under the operational control and coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center of Larnaca, in cooperation with Hellenic Navy General Staff.

It is further noted that the exercise is the 3rd planned activity, within 2020 and is part of the long-term cooperation between the Cyprus Republic’s forces and the Greek aeronautic forces operating in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

“The continuous presence of the Greek Navy in Cyprus waters contributes significantly to the development of joint procedures for dealing with emergency situations at sea,” the press release says
