FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup
New Salamis 1 Belstone Sunday FC 1 (New Salamis won on penalties after extra time)
New Salamis thought they had the game in the bag when with a minute to go and one up through a goal from Deniz Mehmet in the 15th minute when a penalty was awarded against them which Harrow team Belstone scored from to make it 1-1 and go into extra time. In extra time both teams played with caution and the best chance in this period fell to Bellstone who hit the post and with no goals scored the cup tie went into penalties. All the players were in together all nervously trying to decide who was to take penalties. The penalty shoot out began with not a nice way to lose a game but it had to be done. The shoot out seemed to take forever as it stood 6-6 the seventh penalty taken by Bellstone was saved by the New Salamis goal keeper Erbil Bozkurt leaving the red’s defender Nick Kitipos the chance to convert his shot which was parried by the opposition keeper which the ball then hit the post and slowly rolled over the line. A great win for New Salamis that puts them through to the last 16 of the All England Cup and a tie at home to Branksome Railway FC from Bournemoth.
