KOPA League Football Round Up

First Division

Omonia 3 Cetinkaya Cinar 3

Omonia settled quickly and took the game to Cinar. All their pressure paid off with 5 minutes of the first half remaining, with Yiannis Minetos of Omonia scrambling the ball past Cinar keeper Remzi for 1-0.

The second half came alight in the 49th minute when Omonia’s defensive clearance fell nicely to Josh Djelal of Cetinkaya on the edge of the of the box, his rasping low shot making it 1-1.

3 minutes later Evren Altinok of Cinar ran down the wing and crossed the ball into the Omonia box and Ade Kelani was there to bundle the ball into the net and 1-2 for Cinar. The lead didn’t last too long as Omonia equalised almost right away. 2-2 with a goal from Mete Sam.

In the 78th minute Cinar took the lead again as Omonia failed to clear a cross and the defender looped the ball into his own net, 2-3. Cinar once again could not hold onto the lead, as 3 minutes later Omonia scrambled another goal to make it 3-3 Alex Constantinou. A nervous affair at times, but an exciting end to end football match.

Second Division

Achna 2 KLN 0

Achna still hot on the heels of Arachne chasing the third promotion spot with this 2-0 win a solid performance against a good KLN side that are improving all the time. Achna’s both goals came in the first half from Lenos Chrysotomou in the 20th minute and Sane Wyllie in the 40th minute.

Challenge Cup

Second Round

Livadia 2 Tripimeni 2 Tripimeni won 4-2 after extra time

What a game this was, a repeat of last year’s Challenge Cup Final when Livadia defeated Tripimeni. This time it was Tripimeni getting the upper hand and their star striker Ahmet Rifat going to town. His first goal came in the 10th minute when from a long goal kick Ahmet Rifat chested the ball and shot on the volley into the back of the net.

Livadia equalised in the 30th minute with a well worked team effort ending with Matt Taylor tapping the ball home. From the start of the second half Tripimeni went steaming ahead with another goal from Ahmet Rifat but not for long when a Livadia equaliser came again this time from Luke Demetriades where from the edge of the box slammed the ball against the underside of the bar and into the back of the net.

There were a few anxious moments for both teams with saves from both keepers taking the game into extra time.

Again it was exciting with both teams playing exciting attacking football. Tripimeni got off to a good start when from a quickly taken free kick from Leon Fisher the ball was met by Ahmet Rifat who turned towards the opponent’s goal and shot into the back of the net deflected from the far post.

To put the final stamp on the game Ahmet Rifat was left on his own to tap the ball past the helpless Livadia keeper and be the four goal hero for Tripimeni and put them through to the next round.

Anorthosis 4 Pendayia 0

Anorthosis hit top form to go through to the next round of the Challenge Cup beating Pendayia 4-0 and what a team they must be they are scoring goals like mad at the moment.

They were 3-0 up at half time with goals from Fabian, Danny Coolridge2 and one own goal. One particular goal stood out when from a very tight angle Danny Coolridge was able to turn and score.

Second Division Cup in memory of Michael Tzouvanni

Arachne 4 Pantel 0

This game is what Cup football is about with Arachne leading 1-0 half time from a John Holmes goal who tapped the ball into the empty goal from close range. This forced Pantel to attack in force as they had no alternative but to do so as its a cup game and created numerous chances. As a result Pantel weakened its rearguard which Arachne poised on and scored a further three goals to secure their place in the next round of the Second Division Cup in memory of Michael Tzouvanni.

The other three goals were scored by Antonis Panayi 2, one from the edge of the box, his second was brilliant when he cut in from the right and hit a screamer into the back of the net.

Damien Spyrou scored with a header from the corner a good win for Arachne and are back to their winning ways after two consecutive defeats.
