KOPA League Round Up

FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup

New Salamis 1 Branksome 1

Branksome won 2-1 after extra time

A real competitive game of high quality football was played at Cheshunt FC in this last 16 tie in the elite All England FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup between KOPA League’s New Salamis and Branksome who are the most successful team in Bournemouth in recent years.

Branksome got off to a good start taking advantage and using their right winger to spearhead their attacks and creating a few good chances while the red’s New Salamis had Deniz Mehmet at the forefront of their attacks. In the 25th minute Branksome started the ball rolling when after a scramble were able to take the lead and were winning 1-0 at half time. New Salamis came out gagging for an equaliser in the second half and it eventually came in the 75th minute with a well taken goal by Dean Fenton, New Salamis then continued pressuring the Branksome rearguard and had some good chances to wrap up the game but with no avail. Then into extra time they went. But it was a killer for the KOPA League team when they fell to a goal in the last minute of extra time leaving the Bournemouth team winners of the game and a happy journey home

Challenge Cup

Second Round

Arachne 5 Pantel 3

Arachne must be the cup team of the year; they have already won the seven a side tournament in memory of Christos Petrides and last season’s Second Division Cup in memory of Michael Tzouvanni

This game was played in true Cup spirit and exciting to go with it. Arachne led 1-0 with a goal from Leo Charalambous then Pantel equalised with a goal from Nick in the 35th minute.

Arachne regained their lead straight after the break with Antonis Pratsides and they further increased their lead in the 70th, 75th and 80th minute with their goals coming from Ant Panayi two and another for Leo Charalambous. Pantel tried desperately to get back in the game with two goals in the last ten minutes coming from Alex and Costa to finish the game 5-3 in Arachne’s favour.

Komi Kebir 1 Rizokarpasso 3

Rizokarpasso who won the Challenge Cup two seasons ago started off badly versus Komi Kebir who had taken the lead within ten minutes with a goal from Spyros Ioannides. This shook Rizokarpasso and up to the 55th minute Komi Kebir held their own but then Rizokarpasso equalised with a goal from a free kick from Nick Nicou. This inspired Rizo and was able to take the lead through a Harry Vazania’s penalty in the 65th minute who again scored in the 75th minute to secure a 3-1 win for Rizokarpasso and a path into the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Second Division

Pendayia 1 Anorthosis 6

Anorthosis did well to increase their goal tally by scoring twelve goals in their last two games lifting them to second place and five points behind the second division leaders Brotherhood.

Anorthosis took the lead in no time with probably the best goal I have seen this season when Vas Krisikos lobbed the ball over the player’s leg then hit it straight past the oncoming keeper. Immediately from the kick off with only the keeper to beat Jordan Shaw of Pendayia hit the ball straight at the keeper.

Anorthosis scored their second in the 20th minute when Stavros Tsirtsipis from just inside the box slammed the ball into the back of the Pendayia net. The third for Anorthosis came in the 35th minute when Vas Krisikos crossed for Fabian to score. The fourth was also scored by Fabian with a shot from just outside the box.

The second half Pendayia came out full steam and scored in the 55th minute and during this period they came out on top and failed to capitalise on the chances they created. Marios Koureas made some vital substitutions and it changed the game again in Anorthosis favour with Stefan scoring the fifth goal and the sixth was a wonder goal when super striker Danny Coolridge received a pass from the right back Yianni and tacked it into the top corner of the net from a near impossible angle and giving Anorthosis an 6-1 win.
