Bogus callers succeed because they put a huge amount of effort into their stories. If anyone calls at your home that you are not expecting please always keep the following in mind:
- Take your time before you allow a stranger into your property. Don’t be rushed into letting them in.
Always ask callers for proof of identity and take their ID from them and check it thoroughly. Don’t let them flash it quickly and put it away.
- If you are still unsure ask them to come back at a time when a friend of family member can be with you. A genuine caller will not mind this at all.
- If they are persistent close the door and dial 999.
