Man convicted of Stroud Green murder following stabbing

A man who argued with a teenager on a north London basketball court before stabbing him to death has been convicted of murder.

Adrian Carpenter, 30 (05.10.85) of Victoria Road, Stroud Green, N4, was found guilty today, Wednesday, 20 July, at Woolwich Crown Court of murdering 17-year-old Gary Scott from Tottenham.

He had already admitted possession of a bladed article and drug offences.

Jermaine Reid, 28 (14.05.88) also of Victoria Road, Stroud Green, N4, was found guilty of manslaughter and drug offences.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to Marquis Road, N4 to reports of a male stabbed at 23:00hrs on 1 December 2015.

Officers arrived on the scene and found Gary, who had been at a party in Enfield with friends earlier in the evening, suffering from stab injuries.

He was taken to a central London hospital where he subsequently died. A post-mortem examination took place at Haringey Mortuary on 3 December 2015 and gave cause of death as a stab wound to Gary’s left leg

Carpenter and Reid had met up with Gary around 21:00hrs that night and an altercation began which resulted in the victim being stabbed. The pair fled the scene afterwards and were arrested on the evening of 3 December 2015 having been traced to an address in Essex.

They were interviewed by police but gave no comment to all questions asked. In subsequent prepared statements both placed themselves at the scene. Carpenter later admitted carrying a knife and stabbing Gary.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, led the investigation. She said: “This underlines the danger and risk involved in carrying knives. A young man has tragically lost his life.”

Gary’s family said: “Our kids should be burying us, not us burying our kids. Too much young life is being lost.”

Sentencing is due to take place at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday, 21 July.
