A man who stole mobile phones from three young men on the London Underground has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Fabian Pawlowski, 22, of The Drive, Banstead, was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 9 October, after admitting three counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a bladed article.
The court heard that the first robbery took place at around 1.40pm on Monday, 27 April, after Pawlowski boarded a Metropolitan line train at Harrow-on-the-Hill station.
He greeted a passenger with a fist bump before asking to borrow his phone to make a call. After the passenger handed it over, Pawlowski left the train at Northwick Park.
When the victim followed and asked for his phone back, Pawlowski punched him in the face. The victim withdrew after seeing what he believed was a knife in Pawlowski’s hand.
Three days later, Pawlowski approached another man at Harrow-on-the-Hill station and pushed his hand into the victim’s jeans pocket. Fearing he would be stabbed, the man allowed him to take a phone worth more than £1,000.
A third robbery occurred on 15 May aboard a Jubilee line train between Canning Town and North Greenwich. Pawlowski became aggressive towards a passenger before producing two blades, taking his phone and leaving the train.
British Transport Police detectives identified Pawlowski through CCTV enquiries and intelligence. Patrolling officers arrested him at Stratford station on 16 June, and he pleaded guilty in July.
Detective Constable Olesia Berdova said the robberies had caused significant fear and distress, and urged victims and witnesses to report offences to BTP by texting 61016.
