The ongoing UN backed Cyprus negotiations were among the issues German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu discussed in Ankara, on Monday.
In statements, Davutoglu said that they discussed about the negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
He also said that he asked for Germany`s support for the opening of more chapters, in the framework of Turkey`s EU accession negotiations, and that they exchanged views on how to speed up Turkey`s accession course.
Cyprus was divided in 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN backed talks resumed in May aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof.
