Children under the age of 17 are the majority of the migrants who arrived on a boat off the coast of Paphos late Friday.
Kato Pyrgos community leader, Nicos Cleanthous, said that the “93 Syrian migrants were worn out and wet” when they were located around midnight last night. They are 34 men, 17 women and 42 children.
The migrants arrived in Kato Pyrgos, on the northwestern coast of Cyprus and were located by Police after a tip off. They were taken to Polis Chrysohous Police station and then Kato Pyrgos Health Centre. They are expected to be transferred to Kokkinotrimithia reception centre.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The island`s northern occupied shores are not far from Turkey`s southern coast and this is not the first time boats, loaded with refugees, have arrived in Cyprus from Turkey.
