The Minister for Early Years visited Tottenham Hotspur’s HAF Club at Duke’s Aldridge Academy, where he watched football games, flag football and training drills led by young coaches from the Spurred 2 Coach programme.
During the visit, the Minister also toured the site, engaging with staff and young attendees.
The special occasion highlighted the vital role of the HAF programme and demonstrated the powerful outcomes that can be achieved when local stakeholders and community groups collaborate.
Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said:
It was a pleasure to showcase the incredible work happening on the ground. We are delighted to welcome the Minister to witness our HAF programme for himself and to see the benefit to young people.
Partnering with the Foundation and our wider network of stakeholders has been absolutely vital in delivering the highest standard of support to our community – offering inclusive, top-quality activities and meals that make a real difference.
This programme is about engaging children and young people, giving them space to thrive, stay active, build friendships, and enjoy nutritious food.
Today’s visit was a powerful reminder of the impact we’re making, and I’m proud of the partnership that’s helping our young people flourish.
Over £500,000 has been allocated to 26 providers across Haringey and the programme is delivering approximately 1,175 activity spaces daily. With demand so high, many sessions were fully booked before summer even began.
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has also played a pivotal role, welcoming 60 children each day over a four-week period. From football and sports to arts and crafts, the club has provided a safe and stimulating environment for around 200 families – many of whom might otherwise lack access to such opportunities.
As summer continues, Haringey’s HAF programme stands as a powerful testament to the impact of inclusive, community-driven initiatives – where every child is given the chance to play, learn, and flourish.
