CID officials in Paralimni remanded two men on Saturday in connection with the slaying of five people in Ayia Napa last year.
During the remand hearing at the Famagusta District Court, police investigators said that they believed the two men were connected to the killings. They have been described as being a 39-year-old man with a past criminal record and a 28-year-old pub owner.
Greek nationals Demetris Mamalikopoulos and Tasos Tsehelides are both currently on trial for the murder which took place in June last year. But the new arrests could alter the current court proceedings at the Larnaca Criminal court.
Philipos Loucaides, 33, Marios Karaoli, 28, Georgios Georgiou, 35 and Romanians Katalin Koman, 25 and Marcel Koleasa, 33, were hit by a gunman close to Ayia Napa square although police suspect the real target was local businessman Phanos Kalopsidiotis.
Police investigators have confiscated the mobile telephones of both suspects. It is believed that the two men pointed out the victims to Mamalikopoulos and Tsehelides moments before all five men were gunned down in cold blood.
Both men were ordered to remain in police custody for six days.
