New Salamis through to the last eight of the FA Sunday Cup

FA Sunday Cup
4th Round (Last 16)
New Salamis 3 NLO 2
New Salamis playing for a last eight spot for the second year running were up against a good Harrow team NLO at their home ground Cheshunt but it did not take them long to take the lead when a scramble in the NLO box led to Kyri Portou knocking the ball into the back of the net. New Salamis were coasting comfortably and were creating numerous chances with Leon Bell using providing lots of ball s to the left wing for Kyri Portou who was a continuous menace to the NLO defence.
The Red’s second goal came when a move started on the right ending with Nico Muir scoring with a shot from the edge of the box.
Half time with New Salamis two nil looking good for a win but out came NLO with only attack on their mind and put the red’s under a lot of pressure straight away with New Salamis goal keeper Darren Behcet pulling off some great saves. And it wasn’t long before NLO scored with a shot from the right and then equalised but then the red’s stepped up a bit and were rewarded with a goal when a cross from the right ended with a Deniz Mehmet shot that the NLO keeper saved but Kyri Portou was there to head the ball into the back of the net. There was a scare when New Salamis were down to ten men when the right back Dean Fenton was sent off for a careless tackle on a NLO defender , but New Salamis held out for a win to take them into the last eight of the prestigious FA Sunday Cup
