Omonia Youth progression after AGM

Last Tuesday 14th July, Omonia Youth FC held their Annual General Meeting at the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood Centre.

Outgoing chairman Elia Constanti gave a strong speech, extoling the strengths of the club and thanking the many volunteers, managers, coaches and other stakeholders whose tireless work ensures that the club continues to build on solid foundations and continues to be a football club that truly promotes football for all.

Mr Constanti outlined the many on field as well off field successes, not least the trip to the Isle of Wight that was attended by many teams and at different age groups.

After a report from Secretary Nick Zimaras and Treasurer Charlie Christofi, a member of the club’s trustee board, Andy Charalambous explained to those in attendance the role of the trustee board as well as thanking the work of the outgoing committee.

The election of the new committee then proceeded to elect the following: new chairman is Michael Pieri. Treasurer is Charlie Christofi and Secretary is Mary Kizas.

After being elected Mr Pieri toild those in attendance how grateful he is for the opportunity and is humbled by the opportunity to be Chairman of such an important and prominent part of our local community.

In addition, in his address to the managers and other stakeholders of the club, Mr Pieri sent a letter via email which include the following:

“It is indeed an honour and a privilege to take up the role of Chairman and I hope to be able to continue the incredible work of my immediate predecessor Elia and his committee and of course those before him.

I am delighted that both Charlie and Mary have accepted their roles as Treasurer and Secretary respectively and I know you will all support us in our endeavours to ensure our club remains at the forefront of community football development and as an important part of youth engagement.

In addition, Kyri Georgiou has agreed to continue his role as Welfare Officer and I am delighted that he has also agreed to continue as Vice-Chairman. To me this is vital given his experience and along with Charlie, being a direct link to the previous committee which will allow for a seamless transition.

As I mentioned at the AGM, the club can only continue to function successfully with a strong, committed, disciplined and talented committee that the whole club will support and get behind.

To this end, I am pleased to announce that your committee as it stands is made up of the following:

  • Michael Pieri – Chairman
  • Mary Kizas – Secretary
  • Charlie Christofi – Treasurer
  • Kyri Georgiou – Vice Chair & Welfare Officer
  • Chris Mousicos
  • Fano Shamishis
  • Alex Christofi
  • George Constantinou

I look forward to working with you all and that together we can ensure that our club continues to be a positive force for good in our community. We have an incredible responsibility having been entrusted with the football development of so many young people. It would be remiss were we not to ensure we give these young people the best opportunities and the best experiences. Working together towards this common goal, I know we can guarantee the young footballers in our care enjoy their Omonia Youth FC journey.”
