Cyprus has vaccinated 20% of its population with the 1st dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while the vaccination program continues, giving the opportunity to people aged 43 and 44 to make an appointment on Monday.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Health, as of April 23, a total of 236,265 vaccinations (26.8 doses per 100 inhabitants) has been administrated, of which 176,082 (20%) concerned the first dose and 60,183 (6.8%) concerned the administration of both doses.
The Ministry of Health announced that on Monday, April 26, from 7:30 am to 8 pm, people aged 43 and 44 only may be able to arrange a vaccination appointment, in Vaccination Centers operating in all districts. The Ministry also noted that next week the Vaccination Portal will also open for other age groups and that more details will follow.
The press release also adds that vaccinations of people working in essential services, as approved by a special committee set up for this purpose, are also progressing rapidly. At the same time the Ministry runs a process, according to witch Personal Doctors can express interest to be given AstraZeneca vaccines, for the vaccination of their beneficiaries aged 30 or older.
The Ministry also reminds that no sms for movements by exception is needed for vaccination purposes, during the lockdown announced for the next few weeks, provided that a necessary document is provided. In addition, for those who have completed their vaccination with any of the available licensed vaccines and a period of 14 days has elapsed since the last dose, no mandatory self-restriction is required in case they are close contacts of a person with COVID, while they won’t have the obligation for weekly check with rapid test.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yiannis Karousos, said Sunday that the sooner 65-70% of the population of Cyprus gets the jab, the faster the economy and tourism will return to normal. He urged people to get a COVID vaccine saying that the best vaccine is the one that is available.
The Minister said that during the two-week lockdown starting from Monday, the hotels will remain open, the airports will continue to operate according to the existing protocol, while the same rules will apply for tourists, as for Cypriots.
