Ozersay to hold contacts in Washington on the Cyprus problem
Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (20.03.12) reports that Kudret Ozersay, Turkish Cypriot leader’s special representative, has departed for Washington in order to hold contacts with representatives of the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council. Ozersay will also meet with high ranking US officials from the State Department and with representatives of the US National Security Council.
The role of the UN in the negotiating process in Cyprus, the stance that could be followed for achieving a positive result by the end of March in order for holding an international conference and ways of exerting pressure on the Greek Cypriot side “in order to be encouraged to enter into a productive negotiation” are expected to be discussed during Ozersay’s contacts.
Possible problems that could be created if the report to be submitted in the end of March by UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer regarding the negotiations is negative, are also expected to be among the topics which will be brought onto the agenda by Ozersay.
