It was an honour for me to receive your invitation for today’s event organised to celebrate our country’s successes in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It’s a privilege for us to be considered as “Inspiring a Generation”. I personally treasure this thought every day. The idea that I am inspiring, and that my country is inspiring more people and more people because of our dedication, hard work, ambition and positive attitudes, is truly moving. This in itself is a reward for all the hard work and the long hours of training.
Every day represents a new start for everyone who has a desire to work hard, to succeed and reach their goals.
We all come from the small island of Cyprus and we should all be proud to promote our country and our flag.
I am very sorry that I could not be here today in person. Unfortunately I had other commitments when I received your invitation. I feel extremely proud of you all because, as overseas Cypriots, you continue to keep Cyprus close to your hearts and remain true to your heritage even though you are so far away.
So my parting message to you is, to preserve your connections with Cyprus and nurture relationships with fellow Cypriots and the diaspora all around the world. Remember to spread the message that Cyprus may be a small country, but we are proud of its big achievements!
I hope one day I will have the chance to meet you all in person.
I send my best wishes to all of you and a big hug.
