Summer is officially here.
Parts of England were warmer than Cyprus today, official forecasts said.
Temperatures reached 20 * C in London, the Midlands and the north east, according to the Met Office.
In Cyprus unsettled weather will continue on Friday evening with isolated thunderstorms and snowfall is expected in higher elevations.
Light winds are expected to pick up strength later on and temperatures will fall to 7°C inland and 11°C near the coast. It will be 0°C up on the mountains with possible frost.
Weather on Saturday and Sunday will be mostly clear but it will get cloudy at times. Rain and isolated thunderstorms are possible mainly after noon. Temperatures will reach 16°C inland, 17°C near the coast, and 4°C in higher elevations.
Temperatures will begin to rise from Monday with partial clouds, while rain showers are possible on Tuesday after noon.
The warm weather in the UK is being caused by high pressure and warmer air coming in from the Continent, although that is also driving air pollution levels up to “high or very high”.
The good news is this burst of sun is expected to last until at least the weekend, when Sunday could see some rain.
In fact, the Met Office has warned that the sun is as strong now as it is in September, and to ensure “you and your loved ones enjoy the sunshine safely”.
