During last night’s policing operations in Larnaca city and district, police arrested five people for egregious offences, such as possessing knives, offensive weapons, drugs, and illegal property. Coordinated policing efforts are still ongoing in all districts.

With support from MMAD and YAM units, the Police Directorate in Larnaca continued its coordinated policing efforts in different parts of the city and district, with a particular emphasis on the Finikoudes waterfront area.

Five people were arrested for a variety of egregious offences as a result of the checks and policing measures.

After being pulled over for inspection while riding a motorcycle without licence plates and being discovered in possession of a folding knife, a 23-year-old was taken into custody. It was discovered during the check that he was operating the motorbike illegally without a licence and without insurance.

When a 34-year-old’s car was pulled over for inspection, a 28-year-old passenger was arrested for carrying offensive weapons, specifically a club and knuckle dusters.

Two men, ages 21 and 42, were taken into custody for possessing drugs, specifically small amounts of cannabis plant material.

Finally, two silver hand chains were discovered in the possession of a 21-year-old man in nylon packages bearing the prices of €78.20 and €85.92, respectively, leading to his arrest for the offence of unlawful possession of property. To find out if these are stolen goods, investigations are underway.

Island-wide operations

Patrols and checks were carried out as part of ongoing coordinated police operations in other districts of Cyprus.

In parallel, daily inspections of nighttime entertainment venues were maintained in order to stop nuisance phenomena, especially those related to the sale of alcoholic beverages and the use of loudspeakers for music transmission.

In an effort to reduce traffic collisions and improve the safety of the road network, traffic enforcement checks have continued throughout Cyprus in the past 24 hours.

Every day, police continue to conduct coordinated policing operations and activities throughout all districts, with a special focus on coastal and tourist areas during this summer.
