A private tutor was yesterday jailed for three months in prison after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a young girl.
According to state prosecutors, the attack took place four years ago and that the complaint had been made at the time to regional police officers in the area of Limassol. At the time of the attack, the tutor was also the community leader of the township where the incident took place.
The victim had told police in her statement that she had been indecently assaulted by her tutor during a lesson at a private institute. The Limassol District Court had previously heard how the then 13-year-old had gone to the kitchen to get a drink of water and how the defender had followed her in.
She went on to say that the tutor had told her that he wanted to help her find a glass and, according to the complaint, then suddenly attacked her.
The defendant had continued to plea his innocence throughout the trial arguing that he had never touched the young girl while the defence has attempted to discredit her statement by revealing “a string of contradictory claims” during the legal proceedings, which took place behind closed doors due to the young age of the victim.
