“Reflecting Aphrodite” dance performance presented in Havana, Cyprus Embassy in Cuba

The contemporary dance performance “Reflecting Aphrodite” was presented at the Gran Teatro “Alicia Alonso” in Havana, from September 29 to October 1.

The production was a result of the cooperation of the Embassy of Cyprus in Havana and Cuban contemporary dance group “Rosario Cardenas” aiming to highlight the common characteristics between goddess Aphrodite from Cyprus and the deities of the Cuban-African religion which embody similar characteristics.

According to a press release, as an inspiration for this project, the creators used the relevant myths of the two countries and in the case of Aphrodite the book by Jacqueline Karagiorgis “Kypris, the Aphrodite of Cyprus”.

Following the premiere on September 29, the Embassy held a reception which was attended by dignitaries of the Cuban government, foreign diplomats, representatives of the media, and artists.
